10 Secrets To My Online Success

Of course your results may vary, but if you apply these lessons, the ones I learned the hard way. You will be way ahead in time and money than I was.

These are quick hitters and will not be explained in detail.

1. Your not going to be rich overnight - undestand that putting up a website, even with items at great prices that everyone wants it will take time to build that customer base and get ranked.

2. Your results are perfectly designed for your site. What you get is directly tied to how you designed your site, marketed it, and promoted it. Dont expect different results if your doing the exact same thing day in and day out, want different results -change the current process.

3. Dont be fooled by the snake oil man. If it sounds too good then it is. You cannot be ranked #1 overnight, no matter who does it for you, no matter how much you pay for it. SEO takes time and effort and study and patience and proper site design. Watch out for everyone who wants your money.

4. The customer still is #1. This rule will never change no matter how much we want to be compensated for our efforts and service level. The customer is still boss and you better treat them right, prompt service, filling of orders quickly, follow up on email responses. Do you know I have made additional sales and received testimonials from messing up? Thats right..we may have shipped a wrong item - and in the process of resolving the customer added items to be purchased. Amazing!!! but its a part of the customer service return.

5. Slow is the way its gonna go. You first start out with two orders a day -celebrate you have orders your doing something right. You then go to four orders a day - I know you want more, but celebrate you doubled your sales and so it goes. It will take time and seem like its not happening fast enough, but if your patient enough you will get there.

6. Its cheaper to sell to existing customers than gain new ones. This is so trure!!! Once you have a satisfied customer that customer is going to buy from you again than try someone else they dont know. Its a trust issue and once you have that - you have a customer for life.

7. Keep in contact. Refer back to #6. Can you imagine if you sent an actual hand written note to your best customers what they would think? Not an email which can be blasted out to thousands, but it takes time to send out a hand written note - that will be valued.

8. Keep em coming back. Give your customer a reason to come back. We sent out a Johnny Lew Contest in which a question was asked and the answer could only be found by visting the site Fastcommerce.com

9. Blood Sweat & Laughs and sometimes tears. This is what its going to take to create your own business. No one else is going to do it for you. Persistance and relentlessness. Not listening to those who say it wont work. That should be inspirational and not demotivating when someone tells you that. Keep learning, trying and you will succeed.

10. Dont give up!!! taking points 1-9 and going over them again and again - if you give up its because you've lost your passion - you may have been a day away of getting that big break that sent you on your way. In the USA you can do anything you set your mind and efforts on.

Shoppers divided prefer web to in-store for the first time

In a research note, for the first time, the web has surpassed the store as the preferred way for multi-channel shoppers to purchase holiday gifts.

Nearly half (49%) of those shoppers say they intend to do their holiday gift buying online, compared with 44% who plan to do so in-store, found the online survey of over 1,000 adults who shop online four or more times per year, spending at least $500 annually.

Other key findings:

Reasons for shopping online start with saving time (88%), locating hard-to-find products (84%), greater selection (83%) and avoiding the crowds at the mall (83%) - all surpassing saving money, which is still an important factor (80%).

Because of the tough economic climate, 52% of consumers plan to buy fewer holiday gifts this year. The average number of gifts is projected to be down from 16+ last year to 11-15 this year
Although consumers plan to buy fewer gifts and spend less for those gifts, 72% (vs. 65% in 2007) are planning to research products online prior to purchasing.
Over 91% plan to purchase the same number or somewhat more gifts online; that's equal to last year's levels.
"Value spending is definitely the mantra as these multitasking consumers watch and monitor the web to get the best deals," said Lauren Freedman, president of the e-tailing group. "Holiday gift buying is particularly impacted by this propensity for shopping smart as consumers preview online to get the most for their money."

Convenience and efficiency have clearly made shoppers more comfortable with the online channel, as evidenced by more products' being sold across a broader range of categories as well as increased usage of tools and information, according to the e-tailing group.

Additional findings:

The No. 1 customer reason for not buying more online is the high cost of shipping; that's according to 78% of those surveyed:

Free shipping (95%) and sales/specials (83%) are at or near the top of the list of what influences the buying of gifts online; another is keyword search (86%).

For 42% (vs. 30% last year), gift cards will account for 11-50% of their online holiday spending. Wish-list use has also accelerated, with 35% (vs. 25% last year) reporting that they have shopped online from someone else's wish list three or more times.
"Although the internet is now the shoppers' channel of choice, economic pressures are making the stakes high for merchants. They need to continually learn from and react to their customer's multi-channel demands," cautioned Kelly O'Neill, e-commerce marketing director for ATG. "It is imperative that practical solutions be deployed wisely throughout the holiday season and into 2009."

Credit crisis wins business award

A "lucid and prescient" explanation of the credit crisis, and how to survive it, has won the 2008 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.

When Markets Collide by Mohamed El-Erian was described by Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman's chairman and chief executive and one of the judges, as "extremely accessible and compelling".

Mr El-Erian collected the £30,000 ($52,000) prize last night at a gala dinner at The Plaza, New York. Samuel Palmisano, chief executive of IBM, was the guest speaker.

The book, published by McGraw-Hill in May before the latest convulsions of the credit crunch, has already had a big impact, partly because its author is also co-chief executive officer and co-chief investment officer of Pimco, the fixed-income fund manager.

Reviewing the book in July, the Financial Times's John Authers said few people were "as well-positioned to understand markets" as Mr El-Erian, who has also worked at the International Monetary Fund and run Harvard University's $35bn (£20bn) endowment fund.

Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times and another judge of the award, said When Markets Collide was "lucid and prescient in its diagnosis of the present financial turmoil" and offered "important prescriptions for the way forward".

The book explains how a collision between markets of yesterday, centred on the US and the developed world, and the emerging markets of tomorrow is creating new opportunities and risks.

It breaks new ground for the Business Book of the Year Award, launched in 2005, by being the first winner to offer explicit investment advice, alongside its economic and geopolitical analysis.

When Markets Collide - subtitled "Investment Strategies for the Age of Global Economic Change" - took the top prize against keen competition from five other finalists.

They were: The Snowball , the biography of Warren Buffett, the investor; Remix , on copyright and the internet generation; Mc-Mafia , about globalisation and organised crime; Cold Steel , on the Arcelor/Mittal takeover; and A Splendid Exchange , a history of free trade. Each finalist received £5,000.

The FT/Goldman Sachs award seeks the book that each year provides "the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues, including management, finance and economics".

Analysis: The New PayPal

To more than 50 million users, PayPal used to signify a peer-to-peer payment exchange that relied largely on email notifications. Not anymore. While PayPal still stands as one of the most recognized brands in the ecommerce world, it’s no longer a single payment system: It's a suite of different payment options that can assist merchants to start accepting payments online or enhance their existing payment functions.

What are they? How do they differ from each other? Which ones should you use, if any? Let's take a look.

Website Payments Standard uses PayPal’s own website to process payments for you. Customers temporarily leave your store and pay on the PayPal website, with or without a credit card (e.g. they might use their PayPal account, which contains funds deposited from their checking account). Customers are taken back to your website at the end of the transaction.

Website Payments Pro combines two payment systems:

  • Direct Payments, whereby customers pay at your store via credit card, without knowing that PayPal is involved. No PayPal branding appears on the payment page. This is an alternative to establishing a merchant account and payment gateway relationship yourself: PayPal will be both your merchant account provider and payment gateway.

  • Express Checkout, essentially PayPal's answer to Google Checkout -- although PayPal developed the concept first. Users can opt not to register or login at your store; instead, they complete their purchases at PayPal, where the same login information can be used for any store that supports Express Checkout.

PayFlow Payment Gateway presents two choices that incorporate the PayFlow payment systems from VeriSign, which PayPal purchased in November 2005:

  • PayFlow Pro is a standard payment gateway, which translates into a credit card form shown to customers during checkout. Customers don’t leave your store during the transaction. A component must be installed on the web server hosting your store. You will need an Internet merchant account through your bank or other merchant account provider.

  • Payflow Link directs customers out of your store to the Payflow Link page, where they pay for the order. This system is typically used when you don’t have a shopping cart, and you are simply in need of a payment page to collect payment for a product or service.

Are you confused? I was. Website Payments Pro (WPP) Direct Payments and PayFlow Pro both allow credit card payments, on a merchant’s own website, without any PayPal branding. What's the difference? Why does PayPal offer both? Here we go:

  • For your customers: there is no difference.

  • For you: it’s speed of setup, cost, and reporting features.

If you are a new or very small business, go with Website Payments Pro as getting setup is likely faster and easier since you don’t need to obtain an Internet merchant account.

Cost-wise, WPP is cheaper until the number of daily transactions becomes substantial. Specifically, PayFlow Pro costs $40 more per month than Website Payments Pro and has a setup fee of $249, but a much lower cost per transaction ($0.10 versus $0.30 for WPP). The credit card processing rates that you can obtain through your bank (if you are an established business) might also be lower than the rates charged by Website Payments Pro, which vary between 2.2% and 2.9% depending on volume and other qualifications.

Do the math and – depending on the average order amount on your web store – you’ll find that PayFlow Pro becomes cheaper when the number of transaction hits a certain threshold, which is normally a few hundred orders a day.

There are also differences in functionality. In my experience, large stores that process hundreds of orders a day typically use PayFlow Pro. It provides more advanced reporting and transaction reconciliation features, for example, on top of the lower cost per transaction.

How about Express Checkout? Once it has been integrated into a shopping cart, it can be used with any gateway supported by the cart, not just PayPal’s. So you could be using Authorize.Net and Express Checkout on the same store, for instance. If you opt to use Website Payments Pro (Direct Payments), Express Checkout is enabled automatically (a PayPal requirement that your shopping cart provider had to comply with).

And PayFlow Link? It’s for merchants that typically don't have much experience with ecommerce and want a solution to cut and paste HTML into their website to allow the purchase of a few products or services. In other words, if you are using a shopping cart, you will not use Payflow Link. So don’t worry about it.

Let’s recap.

  • Website Payments Standard: Use it to offer PayPal payments if your shopping cart does not support Express Checkout. If it does, then Express Checkout basically replaces it.

  • Express Checkout (Website Payments Pro) Activate it on your store if you want to provide an alternative checkout option, similar to Google Checkout. Customers that hate to register with a new store will appreciate the ability to bypass your registration form.

  • Direct Payments (Website Payments Pro): This offers an easy way to support credit card payments on your store without having to get an Internet merchant account. Customers stay on your store and there is no PayPal branding.

  • PayFlow Pro: If your store processes several hundred orders a day, go with PayFlow Pro to take advantage of more robust reporting and transaction reconciliation tools. You will need an Internet merchant account through your bank.

  • PayFlow Link: If you use a professional shopping cart, you don't need it.

Check with your shopping cart software provider to determine which of these payment options could be used on your store. If you are looking for new shopping-cart software, PayPal has a list of compatible carts on its website.

suspicious packages found in a shopping plaza parking

Lake Mary Police weren't taking any chances on Saturday evening when two suspicious packages were found in a shopping plaza parking lot just after 8 p.m.

An area was secured with rope near a Pet Smart, which kept some people from picking up their pets.

"I'm a little concerned. My baby's in there," said Candy Heller, who was anxiously awaiting to retrieve her Cockerspanial.

A bomb squad sent in a robot to assess the danger, before a deputy approached to take pictures, while wearing a protective suit.  Curious onlookers were also taking some souvenir shots.

"I really don't think it's a bomb or anything like that," said Alan Monty.  "I'm just curious, trying to figure out what it might be."

Bomb technicians with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office eventually were able to examine what were described as two suitcases.  It was determined that there was no risk to the public and the shopping plaza was reopened around 9:30 p.m.

Fastcommerce shopping carts software helps retailers do onli...

Fastcommerce shopping carts software combines innovative web design and Product presentation With Tightly Integrated Multi-Channel Fulfilment Processes.

Fastcommerce shopping carts software has been announced a new release of 'MotiveShop', its ecommerce software solution for the retail sector - http://system.fastcommerce.com/. MotiveShop enables retailers to maximise ecommerce revenues by being able to present visually dynamic, content-rich product information to customers, whilst also extending sales reach and increasing conversion values.
With each month bringing ever more dire figures from the high street, the potential rewards on offer for the successful multi-channel retail strategy are compelling.

However, many retailers are now discovering, if ecommerce is to become a significant revenue stream, fulfilment processes must be integrated across channels and extend to after sales.
Andy Derrick, managing director of Motive Technology, explains, "Those multi-channel retailers still relying on disjointed systems for high street and online sales channels are suffering increasingly untenable costs, significant stock and price inaccuracy and are unable to deliver key customer services - such as reserve online and collect in store. With our MotiveShop ecommerce software solution, retailers now have the opportunity to integrate on and offline sales by driving online purchasers into stores to collect their goods, thus providing another opportunity to sell. It therefore becomes crucial to ensure consistency of message across all channels in terms of product information, availability, price, product delivery and returns."
Derrick continues, "MotiveShop allows retailers to satisfy the diversification of customer needs and provide a seamless service experience. By combining innovative web design and product presentation with excellent fulfilment processes, we can help multi-channel retailers to increase their basket value, improve sales of relevant, high value accessories and feed products to much larger audiences."

Nokia brings out iPhone 3G 16gb competitor

The company's first touch-screen phone has GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.2-megapixel camera, expandable memory, and robust multimedia functions, to compete to Apple iPhone 3G 16gb.

With Tuesday's introduction of the 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia is finally launching a touch-screen competitor to Apple's iPhone 3G 16gb.

The 5800 has a 3.2-inch resistive touch screen, and it's powered by Symbian S60, fifth edition, compared with iPhone 3G 16gb. The user interface will be somewhat familiar to Symbian users, but the company has tweaked the UI for touch control.

"By adding the benefits of touch-screen technology to S60, the world's leading smartphone interface, Nokia is taking the familiar and giving it a human touch," Nokia VP Jo Harlow said in a statement. "We have used touch technology where it really adds value such as the contacts bar, media bar, and clever shortcuts from the home screen to menu items such as calendar, profiles, and clock."

With a 640-by-360-pixel display, the 5800 can play multiple types of video at a high resolution. Nokia is also emphasizing the handset's audio abilities, and there will be a built-in music player capable of multiple codecs. The handset will come with an 8-GB microSD card for storing this media, and the memory can be expanded up to 16 GB.

Nokia's first touch-screen handset also has a bevy of connectivity options with built-in Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities. These can be used to browse the Internet as well as check e-mail. The 5800 also will have Bluetooth version 2.0, GPS, and a proximity sensor to save battery life and avoid inadvertent touches.

The handset measures in at 4.3 by 2 by 0.6 inches, and it weighs about 3.8 ounces. Nokia said the handset will be available in Europe in the fourth quarter, and it will roll out to other markets in early 2009. The company said a version with its unlimited music download service, Comes With Music, will be available early next year.

Nokia's has much ground to make up in the touch-screen market, as the field is filled with entries from virtually every major phone manufacturer. InformationWeek writer Eric Zeman spent some time with the new handset, and you can read his thoughts here.

iphone 3g 16gb fires blackberry storm

Another day, another round of 'could it be an iPhone killer?' whispers. RIM is keen to point out that there's enough room in the smartphone market for everyone, but that just doesn't make good copy, does it? Smileiphone 3g 16gbLaughing is fantastic!

So, iphone 3g 16gb, on paper, who wins in the battle of *adopts wrestling commentator voice* the Apple iPhone 3G 16gb and the Blackberry Storm? iphone 3g 16gb

(And yes, iphone 3g 16gb's on paper - we haven't had a chance to properly play with the Storm yet. Bear with us).

Size
Surprisingly, there's very little to choose between the two - 4.4x2.4x0.55 for the Storm, and 4.5x2.4x0.48 for the iPhone. Having said that, the iPhone can claim the minimalist crown, as the hard buttons at the bottom of the Storm prevent it from looking super-slick. The Storm also weighs an extra ounce.

Why build a website when you can build a web business

Running a successful online businesses for most people is still a pipe dream. Many people always ask me how they can reach a level of success online. How can I build a high-traffic website? How can I make money online? What do I have to do to fire my boss. These questions have always posed a problem for me, until now. By sheer chance I came across a website that made my path clear as daylight-introducing Site Build It.
For anyone wanting to start an online business as opposed to a website, Site Build It is a practical solution for them. This they can do without getting lost in a sea of technical details. Dr. Ken Envoy has created a fascinating service that helps people build income-generating web sites. They provide complete hosting as well as an extensive suite of tools to help you build traffic and generate income.
Ken Envoy is really passionate about helping people build businesses online, and he does it with flair and finesse, because he realized that the technological complexity required to build a successful online business is just way too high for most people.
Site Build It! is designed around a simple formula, which they refer to as CTPM. This stands for Content -> Traffic -> Presell -> Monetize.

If this is done correctly this approach can generate tons of traffic, Preselling is the process of building a relationship with visitors, which essentially means treating visitors like human beings instead of sales targets. People visit this site looking for information to improve their lives, The final monetization step occurs when people click on ads or buy affiliated products that happen to be of interest to them.

The major step in this formula is building traffic. If you can’t build traffic, you won’t succeed. But the overall formula is sound, and it works if you do it correctly. Site Build It! provides technical solutions to help reduce your chances of making mistakes. Where it cannot provide a technical solution, it provides clear instructions and education to help you succeed.
There’s still no guarantee of success, because you can still make mistakes, but the tools of Ste Build It are there to help you make the right decisions and reduce your chances of messing up.. If you are looking for a get rich quick scheme, you are in the wrong place, but if you want a successful business, Ken can help you do it. Just remember succeeding takes time, it takes commitment, dedication and 100% creative thought, but with this service, and your brains and motivation, the odds of success are definitely in your favor. You don’t have to become a technology expert to earn enough to quit your day job.
A major help that they provide is the easy-to-use research tools to help you figure out what kind of site to create in the first place. A lot of people fail because they create sites that were destined to fail. Site Build It! can help you avoid such problems.

Why Use Site Build It?

If you already run a successful online business you don’t necessarily need Site Build It! But if that’s your situation, you can increase your income by joining their affiliate program, which will give you an extra passive income stream.

Economic Gloom & Doom? Not for Online Retailers!

2008 has been a difficult year for retail. The United States economy has had to face a housing market correction, a sub-prime mortgage crisis, rising unemployment, high food and energy costs, a declining dollar value, and now a financial bailout for Wall Street.

The National Retail Federation predicted this week that these financial pressures will result in the worst holiday sales season since 1991.

While overall retail sales will be slumping this year, the online retail market sector is expected to grow by 17% according to a Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research. With a little digital marketing strategy, this holiday season could still be full of cheer!

Take these steps and you'll be jolly this holiday season:

PLAN: Understand holiday online retail buying trends and plan your marketing strategy around them. Learn more by reading our Oneupweb white paper (an oldie but a goody). Listed below are the top 5 holiday shopping days:

• Thanksgiving Day
• Black Friday (Friday after Thanksgiving)
• Cyber Monday (Monday after Thanksgiving)
• Christmas Eve
• Christmas Day

PROMOTE: To resonate with shoppers, offer incentives for shopping sooner this year. Starting after Halloween, use deals like "Free shipping all this week" that could entice consumers to purchase early, and more importantly, from you.

ONLINE MESSAGING:

• Redesign your homepage with a Christmas/Holiday theme. Here are some examples.
• Use holiday season messaging in your SEM campaigns to help consumers identify your site as a good place to shop for gifts.

SAVE SALES ON OUT-OF-STOCK ITEMS:

• Redirect your customers when a product is out-of-stock. Use language like "If you liked product x, you'll love product y!" and provide a link to product y.
• If a product is only temporarily out-of-stock, provide a method for the customer to receive an email when the product is in-stock. This will also give you additional opt-in email addresses.

MERCHANDISING: Cross-selling and up-selling

When a customer adds an item to your shopping cart, instead of taking them to the shopping cart page, land them on a cross-sell page. There the customer is reminded of exactly what item they added to the shopping cart, then immediately show additional items from the same category to keep the customer browsing. If the customer then chooses to check-out, you can get more aggressive with a highly targeted pop-up. If the customer adds that item to the cart, send them back to the cross-sell page and repeat.

OPTIMIZE FOR LAST-MINUTE SHOPPERS: As Christmas approaches, start displaying purchase cutoff dates for guaranteed delivery to reassure customers that they will receive their gifts on-time. When holiday shipping deadlines are behind you, promote electronic gift cards by using tag-lines like "It's Not Too Late" or "There's Still Time" to attract last minute shoppers.

Don't let the economic pundits and pessimistic forecasters get you down this holiday season. Crisis creates opportunity, and you can capitalize this year if you plan to succeed.

Business to Business E-commerce Growing

Even though it is currently the most visible, Business 2 Consumer (B2C) is only part of e-commerce. Business 2 Business (B2B) e-commerce is quickly emerging as an area of economic growth and expansion. According to a recent survey by the National Association of Manufacturers, more than two-thirds of American manufacturers still do not conduct business electronically. However, that is predicted to change in the near future.

Businesses are beginning to move their supply networks and sales channels online and are participating in new online marketplaces. Businesses also are expanding their use of networked systems to improve internal business processes to coordinate product design, manage inventory, improve customer service, and reduce administrative and managerial costs. Some businesses may face barriers to adopting e-commerce, including a lack of knowledge about the technology and its costs; insufficient information about the benefits of e-commerce and applicable business models; shortage of technically trained employees; complex and user-discouraging e-commerce implementations; the absence of unbiased, qualified assistance; and lack of funds. The South cannot afford to let these barriers hold e-commerce development back.

By failing to participate in e-commerce, companies are missing opportunities for lowering costs, increasing productivity, expanding market access, and improving relationships with customers and business partners. By not making the transition to the new way of doing business, businesses run a serious risk of becoming less competitive, affecting both their present market positions and long-term viability. As larger companies (with more available funds to transition) integrate e-commerce into their businesses, small firms run the risk of being excluded if they are unable to establish strong e-commerce ties with others in their supply chains.

SEO online marketing & biz promotion

Why is Online SEO Marketing so popular today? Because it has been extremely effective in boosting sales for countless businessmen around the world. Just consider this - 90% of your potential customers search for their products and services online rather frequently. Suppose you are offering quality products and services aat competitive prices, but your sales are not improving as no body knows about your products, simply because you are not using the appropriate medium to promote your products and services!!! It is really difficult to beat your competitors unless you use the right medium that most of your competitors are using.

This being the situation, it is important to know what Online SEO Marketing is all about and how it drastically influences your business. Online SEO Marketing is all about promoting your products and services through your website. However, simply putting up a website is not enough; your website must be visible in major search engines. But, how does one achieve visibility in search engines? Read on to know more.

How Does Search Engine Optimization Process work?

Typically, a website is optimized by following many internet marketing strategies. The process of Online SEO Marketing encompasses many link building strategies so as to achieve higher rankings in the Search Engine Result Pages of various search engines for different set of targeted keyword phrases. The visibility of your site in the search engines largely depends on the quality and quantity of the inbound links that your site achieves. Hence, the entire process of Search Engine Optimization is aimed at achieving links for your website.

There are many SEO consultants who offer Internet Marketing Solutions. However, what differentiates them from each other are their approach to the optimization process and the SEO Online Marketing strategies they follow. Ideally, a web marketing company starts with a well-strategize keyword analysis of your site to see if your site has been optimized on the right set of keywords or keyword phrases (the words online consumers use).

After a comprehensive keyword analysis, the SEO process is followed by many on-page, off-page and on-site modifications. While the on-page factors include optimization of the meta tags, URLs and web content of your sites, the off-page optimization methods are primarily carried out by a meticulously planned link building strategy. The off-page optimization methods, by and large, include directory submission, article submission, blog submission and press release distribution. Some advanced Online SEO Marketing techniques such as Social Bookmarking, Forum participation and full-page advertisement are also being followed to achieve high volume of quality inbound links towards you site.

The process of Online SEO Marketing helps your site become visible in the SERPs of major search engines for the keywords or keyword phrases you site has been optimized on. When your prospective customers use those keywords or keyword phrases in the search box of different search engines, your site comes at the top page in the SERPs and, the volume of the potential customers increases drastically. The Online SEO Marketing, apart from being the most effective medium of increasing your sales, is also far more economical in comparison to the other modes of business promotion. This is the reason why Online SEO Marketing is fast emerging as the best method of business promotion across the globe.

What Can A Shopping Cart Do For Your Online Business?

The wonderful online world that is the internet is constantly changing and modifying as consumers demand more, and as companies try newer, innovational approaches to the ways that online business is conducted. The world of ecommerce and the ever evolving web shopping carts is constantly changing for the better. As programmers and designers integrate newer and far more secure web applications for shopping carts, with the main theme of consumer security, confidentiality and of course, ease of payment processing in mind. The ecommerce software of today is light years ahead of those that were present just a few short years ago. And as time continues to pass, expect to see these shopping carts become even more evolved.

The importance for any online business or entity in offering a high level of online security is essential in them attracting customers who will then go on to make a purchase on their websites. Considering that identity theft is at an all time high, and that quite frequently hackers make haste of people's personal and confidential identifying information online, all to use it for fraudulent purposes later, online security is the main theme of the shopping carts today. Programmers and web developers are working hand in hand with online security firms to better their batch processing systems and to create the best, most secure method of transferring major financial information to the credit card companies for processing. Large companies like Visa and MasterCard have already issued newer security requirements for using this type of software, which if not met by the developers, they will reject accepting payments from any shopping carts not meeting their security standards.

These platforms change the way that you can do business online. In the past, before online shopping carts were the main theme, merchants had to accept money orders and checks and use integrated online payment systems like those found in payment processors such as Paypal and others, who charged steep fees for such services. Then they had to wait for the money, and deal with another middle man company for processing. Enter the online shopping cart, and suddenly merchants had a way to really offer their customers convenience, privacy and ease of use. Without this software, most internet merchants and vendors would already be belly up, as the main theme of online purchases is ease. People are able to log on to the internet, enjoy shopping on some of the largest catalogs of items in the world, where they can find great deals and enjoy them, all without having to leave their home. Shopping carts have changed the way that the world does business online, and the more secure that consumers feel using them, the more money that the internet has the potential to make.

Why is this method essential in today's online world? Can you imagine visiting an online store that did not allow you to add items to the shopping cart? A website or online store without this capacity certainly would not survive long in today's online world. It's great for shoppers. They can add items in large or small quantities as they desire, and keep shopping. Before they check out they can review a list of the items, their descriptions and the costs. They can add shipping rates, modify items or remove items they choose not to buy. Then they simply check out and tender payment securely online. And all of the while they do not have to worry about their personal information becoming comprised to thieves. Surely, without the shopping cart software of today, the internet would be a much less profitable world.

Women more frequently do online shopping

In a new survey from MasterCard, it appears that while women are doing more frequent shopping online than their male counterparts, men tend to spend more on each purchase.

Women also tended to visit airline websites more than men, with 42% of female respondents shopping online compared to 38% for men.

“Growth from online shopping is poised to further accelerate in Asia/Pacific and the online shopping population in the region is expected to reach 819.4 million by 2010,” said Georgette Tan, MasterCard VP Communications, Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

“Women consumers are an important group of online shoppers and these findings offer insights for businesses to better understand their consumption habits and preferences.”

The report, titled Online Shopping in Asia/Pacific - Patterns, Trends and Future Growth, found that of all online shoppers that had shopped more than six times online over the past three months 57% were female.

But it appears that men are spending up bigger than women, with 79% of men spending more than US$100 on online shopping over a period of three months compared to 72% of women.

MasterCard looked at 4157 respondents across Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

What was synonymous with both groups of online spenders were that one of the biggest contributors to a sale was price, reaffirming that online buyers are very price sensitive.
Additionally while 75% of women admit to impulse buying on the internet due to promotions or specials, 85% of men say they do their research and shop around before purchase.

Which retailers are still not selling online?

Earlier this year, I listed ten well known high street retailers that weren't selling online, despite the obvious benefits of doing so.

I calculated (roughly) that these companies were missing out on potential revenues of between £8m and £1.35bn for the sake of setting up an e-commerce operation.

Six months later, online retail is still growing, and the reasons for selling online are just as valid, so I've taken a look to see where these companies are now with their e-commerce strategies...

Still not selling online

    * H&M sells online in a few European countries, but still hasn't announced plans to do so in the UK, a large market for the company. A Flash-filled website that starts playing audio at you is all UK visitors will see. Not cool.

    * Despite being one of the most well-known and successful shoe retailers offline in the UK, Clarks remains one of the biggest e-commerce refuseniks.

Telephone ordering is available, but this is not good enough, nor is the Flash website which is not only a usability nightmare but also, as it opens in a new window, will fall foul of many popup blockers. About as bad as it gets.

    * Claire's accessories is pretty successful on the high street, but still seems to have no plans to move into online retail.

    * Department store retailer Fenwicks still has no e-commerce site. Perhaps department stores don't work so well online? Then again, Selfridges is planning to roll out a transactional internet store... (see below).

    * Oddly, while rivals Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda all sell online with some success, both Morrisons and Somerfield have yet to launch an e-commerce site, though Somerfield did have one which closed in 2000.

Morrisons uses its website to advertise its latest offers and provide general information, while Somerfield lets you browse through its products and add them to a shopping list, which you can then print off and take to the store.

Planning to sell online

    * Last time I looked, Jigsaw was displaying its clothing range online, but orders could only be placed by telephone. Now it has announced a move into e-commerce, and a new site is due to be launched soon.

    * Homeware retailer Habitat displays its collection online, but still hasn't launched an e-commerce offering in the UK. Habitat seems to be cautiously dipping its toe into the water, with an e-commerce trial on its French site. We think Habitat would do really well online as the brand appeals to discerning buyers who aren't that price sensitive. Come on Habitat!

Online Store Shopping Cart Ideas For Your Online Store

Commerce on the world wide web has always been a study in contradictions. One example: store owners must defend against hackers and other forms of online intrusion, but must also publicize and promote the addresses of their servers. Another: the online store has no brick and mortar storefront, but because of its far reach and low overhead it sells more, and therefore requires far more brick and mortar warehouse space. Finally: if a site looks more like fun than business, it will often actually conduct more business.

The final point is noteworthy. An online retail site must attract the visitor's attention in order to be a viable business venture. The ecommerce solution is an important part of site protection both for the vendor and the upholstery steam cleaning When items are targeted for purchase, the shopping cart becomes an important part of customer satisfaction. Every part of the shopping cart must be easy to navigate and still provide all the necessary information needed to complete the sale and prompt a return visit for future purchases.

You've probably been annoyed by other online retailers who cut corners. Cutting corners is not best practice in the long run. Offering a shopping cart by way of online store software is a major convenience for memory loss customer and a security measure for everyone. A shopping cart presents merchandise, totals purchases, applies discounts, and receives payment in a safe and secure manner.

A basic shopping cart package includes these fundamentals. Some offer further information covering average customer data, the browsing behavior and trends in purchasing. More importantly, however, the carpet cleaner service requires the card to transform inventory from pictures on a site into trackable inventory identifiers, and calculate those into prices.

The account information must be sent from there to the payment processors. They actually put the charge on the buyer's credit card and put a credit to the account of the online store. This all furniture cleaning service to take place in a secure setting, without risk of the information being stolen or used fraudulently by other individuals. Because of perils like this, software always needs to be redeveloped and refined. This is the only way to stay ahead of criminals.

Don't go crazy with pink t-shirts when you've decided to plan the layout of your online store. Make sure to use memory loss and tie approach when it's appropriate -- in the professional, business side of your site. At the same time, think about whether you should add a sweater vest, cuff links, top hat, or monocle.

More and more people buy the wanted things online. B2C e-commerce is no longer the newly emerging things quite far away from us. Many online stores have been already entered consumer's field of vision and become a good choice for numerous consumers at the early time.

Online Stores can integrate the entire product-supply-chains; give consumers access to communicating and cooperating with thousands of producers and suppliers; display, promote and distribute thousands of products, giving consumers better after-sale cares; providing direct service for each consumer. All these advantages are unable to be obtained through technological innovation in the short term but have to accumulate experiences and practices.

Surprisingly, all these advantages are the superiority of traditional retailers in the long term. Usually, retailers have already set up profound relations with suppliers and more perfect supply-chains. They have a deep understanding about product managements and market demands.
